EAST MONTPELIER — Route 2 travelers now have a new spot to grab a good bite to eat at the Plainfield Hardware and Grocery Store with a deli focusing on homemade, local food.

For a year and a half, there was no deli in the store which sits about a mile and a half west of Plainfield village. Rich Christiansen, who owns the store with his wife, Gaye, said the deli helps by creating traffic for the store. He said having the deli also makes selling produce worthwhile, something the spot is known for as it was a farm stand before Christiansen bought it nine years ago and turned it into the store it is today.
