PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Walk down the streets of Placerville, and visitors can still find reminders of the city’s Gold Rush past.
The historic foothill town earned the nickname “Old Hangtown” after getting a reputation as a place where horse thieves and bandits met a swift end. The reputation remained — and so did the town.
