When Michael Wynn was 6 years old, he dressed up as the red-hatted Keebler Elf to draw customers to his family’s hardware and food businesses.

Sometimes he dressed up as a slice of Wonder Bread or a clown.

“I preferred to be an elf because it was less embarrassing than being a clown — my friends couldn’t recognize me in the costume,” said Wynn, 44, who now is president of one of those businesses, Sunshine Ace Hardware, as well as a branch director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
