One of the casualties is the downtown staple, Cabot Handy Hardware, formerly known as Lowman & Lowman.
“It’s been here for a long time, same location,” said owner David Cochran. “Some of them [customers] had tears in their eyes and said they were going to miss this place. Some of them have been coming here since they were kids.”
The store’s history dates all the way back to the 1890s when the Lowman family’s grandfather opened it at the corner of Pine and 1st streets.
