Jones Hardware in the downtown has permanently ceased operations.

The closing marked the end of a 102-year run of the family company being headquartered in Shamokin. The company’s store in Mandata is also in the process of closing; however, the Coal Township location along Route 61 will remain open.

William Bielski, a manager, said Wednesday that the location at 115 E. Independence St. in the city closed Tuesday, Oct. 24. The Mandata location, at the intersection of Routes 225 and 147, will close following a liquidation sale, at which point the building will be sold.
