ANCHORAGE (KTUU) – A superior court judge handed down a hefty sentence in court on Friday, stemming back to a robbery in June of this year, that ended with an exchange of gunfire. William Travis McCann, 45, will serve 28 years in prison, after pleading guilty to robbery, assault, and misconduct with a weapon.
In the summer, McCann was dropped off outside of Andy’s Ace Hardware in Muldoon. He entered the store, wearing a mask, and wielding a Taurus .357 revolver. He then used the gun to demand money from a cash register, shooting several bullets into the machine.
According to court documents, he left with $628 in cash. But just as he had left the building, an employee of Andy’s Ace Hardware, identified as Michael Hadley, followed McCann outside and shot him twice as he attempted to flee in the Bronco that dropped him off. He then initiated an arrest, using security grade handcuffs. Police arrived shortly later.
