With a countdown and applause Frager’s Hardware officially celebrated its reopening, 99 years after it first opened on Capitol Hill, and six years after a fire destroyed the old store as horrified neighbors watched.

A lot of history went up in smoke that day, from the regular parade of customers coming to buy that ice melt when winter hits DC or President George W. Bush dropping by in 2006 to look at garden rakes and the garden plants outside.
